| Premiering in 1964, "The Red Detachment of Women" is a Chinese ballet
using western instruments instead of traditional Chinese instruments, which
was evolutionary for its time. This ballet is the story of young girl, Wu
Qinghua, overcoming poverty, injustice and saving her family and village by
defeating the tyrant that governed her village. This Ballet is one of the most well know ballets performed in China. This particular ballet was performed for president Nixon on his visit to china 1972 and is part the permanent repertoire of the National Ballet of China. |
